ISSUE:
Prelims 2021 Postponed
- Due to the prevailing conditions caused by the Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), the Union Public Service Commission has deferred the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2021, which was scheduled to be held on 27th June, 2021.
Now, this Examination will be held on 10th October, 2021.
- The commission conducts civil services examination annually in three stages — preliminary, main and interview — to select officers of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) among others.
IASbhai WINDUP:
- An almost similar situation happened last year due to COVID-19 lockdown and nation-wise lockdown due to which UPSC 2020 was postponed.
- While deciding the new dates candidates were given at least 30 days of notice. The exam date(UPSC Prelims 2020) was postponed to October 4.
- The candidate will now get the extra time to prepare for IAS Exam 2021.
- UPSC has already postponed the UPSC IAS interviews to a future date.
- The new UPSC interview dates will be notified later by the commission.
- Earlier, IAS 2021 notification and application was released on March 4 for 712 vacancies.
- All the ministries and the departments in the union and state governments are headed by the IAS officers.
- Hence the IAS exam has acquired this much importance.
- The topper of the IAS exam has the opportunity to become the Cabinet Secretary to the Government of India.
- It is the highest bureaucratic position one person can have in India.
